Cubs Scouts

Cubs are young people aged between 8 and 10½, who make up the second section of the Scouting family, between Beavers and Scouts.

Activities

During their time in the Pack, Cubs will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting.

There are a range of badges available which Cubs can wear on their uniforms to show everyone how well they're doing.

Cubs also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of the Pack and take part in all kinds of outdoor activities.

Structure and organisation

A Pack of Cubs is organised into Sixes, with each Six named after a colour, and a Sixer and a Seconder in charge.

Target Sprint is Coming to CRAI
26/01/2021 By Dave Cook
We are deighted to confirm that we have secured a £15K Investment in Target Shooting through Sports Wales (90% Grant Funded with a 10% Contribution from CRAI Scout District Council).
The Investment is centred around upgrading the Rifle Ranges we have at CRAI Scout Activity Centre to offer 10M indoor shooting, a wider variety of targets (Knockdown, bell targets etc.), investment in AirArms MPR400 Sporter PCP Rifles along with all of the additional equipment needed to support these, Targets, Pellets and Instructor Courses for Club Coaches and Three position Shooting (Kneeling Prone and standing) as well as the equipment needed to support these shooting styles.
We will also be purchasing an Outdoor “Pop-up” range to support an Activity called Target Sprint as well as running the necessary training to allow YPST Diploma Holders to run Target Sprint sessions.
We will be registering as a Target Sprint Hub (only the fourth in Wales) and will be looking to run Monthly Shooting sessions, supported by senior coaches from across South Wales, that will be accessible by the whole community (not just Scouts).  this will help us raise funds and establish CRAI as an importnt Community Location. We will be hoping to create shooting teams to take part in National Scout and Open competitions in Target Sprint and Target Shooting.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in getting involved in Target Sprint, the Monthly Shooting sessions or the additional courses please contact me. Obviously all of the equipment and ranges will be availible for use by existing YPST Diploma Holders (restrictions will be in place on equipment that requires specialist training as you would expect).
And OBVIOUSLY all of these activities are currently restricted by the current Pandemic and our Face to Face Scouting status of "Red".

1st Gilfach & 1st Sirhowy's Toilet Roll Challenge
16/04/2020 By Elizabeth O'Malley

Jenni knows her ADC Beavers loves a challenge and finds it difficult to say no! So once tagged on the infamous toilet roll challenge on a facebook post we had a quick discussion and decided to put it out as a challenge to our respective Beaver Colonies and put a video together. Obviously the other sections of our Groups were so jealous that they had to get involved -especially both GSL's (you will see how much they wanted to be involved if you watch the video!).

Jenni put all the videos together and added music to it, all I did was set it as a challenge and forwarded the clips! Thank you Jenni for all the hard work, it looks great and will be a good memory to look back upon when this is all over.

We now challenge you all to join in! Maybe we could even make a whole CRAI District version? Or even better lets create a CRAI necker flip video?? No idea what I am on about watch out for Lee in the video.

Today some of our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts visited Gurudwara Nanak Darbar in Cardiff where they learnt more about the Sikh faith.

Our young people learnt about some of the practicialities of the Sikh faith, and also were treated to some delicious food!

This provided a fantastic opportunity for our young people to explore a faith that they perhaps wouldn't have had the opportunity to explore before, and rather than reading a book or being taught in a classroom they got the opportunity to explore the faith directly from some of the members of Gurudwara Nanak Darbar.
